How to Survive an Institution

When we claim authority over aspects of the social construction of reality, what are the consequences for our life worlds? We, an interdisciplinary group of artists and researchers, utilize moving image to explore this question. Through a short film (20 minutes), we analyze how intersecting structures operate through the multiplicity of institutions across the three art and science worlds that our bodies span. We suggest coherence in our experience exists because we are friends and decided it ought to. Collective action here comes through our objective accomplishment: an absurd set of tips and tricks, each of them a rule for moderating and mediating the hyperbole, symptoms, and nervous laughter that come with ‘surviving’ a life of institutions. Co-directed with Aalap Bommaraju and Arthur Menezes Brum.
